Government’s plan for right to switch off reportedly shelved
It has been recently reported that ministers are about to abandon plans for a legal right to “switch off” outside work hours. The right to switch off was not included in the Employment Rights Bill, but it was anticipated it would be added in due course. The Sunday Times has reported that the Government will confirm its removal imminently.
This will be a welcome decision for employers, who are already braced for significant changes, as it is then a matter of choice and culture whether employers wish to encourage their employees to switch off outside working hours.
