Soundbite: Government backs new law to grant parents 12 weeks’ paid neonatal leave

On Friday, a bill was passed by Government supporting a new law to grant parents up to 12 weeks’ paid leave where their baby requires neonatal care shortly after birth.  This leave will apply in addition to other leave entitlements, such as maternity and paternity leave.  Once in law, the right will apply from day 1 to all employees for babies admitted to hospital up to age 28 days for a period of 7 days or more.  It is anticipated that hundreds of parents will benefit from the leave at an incredibly stressful time.  It is likely to become law in 2023.
